Exploring the world of Luxury Vases

A vase is the rare piece that has to hold its own in two completely different conditions dressed with flowers, and standing there with nothing in it at all. Most people buying one naturally picture the first state. The more considered approach is to think about both, because a vase often spends just as much time standing on its own as it does holding a floral arrangement.

That's really the test of a good vase, luxury or otherwise: does it still earn its place on the shelf on a Tuesday afternoon with nothing inside it? A beautifully designed vase can answer yes through its form, material, craftsmanship, and the way light moves through or across it. The flowers then become another expression of the piece rather than its sole purpose.

Stone Versus Glass

Both are rooted in centuries-old craft traditions, and both sit squarely inside what's often called the quiet-luxury or object-as-sculpture trend in interior design, where a single well-made piece is chosen to be lived with rather than swapped out seasonally.

A jade vase has a cool, substantial presence; you experience its weight and surface before you begin to notice the finer details of its carving. In Indian homes, this is part of a much longer appreciation for jade and other hardstones, which have carried associations of calm and good fortune for centuries. That cultural history gives a jade vase a sense of depth that extends beyond its decorative role.

The Jade Column Flower Vase Large from La Maison Eterna's Jade Collection is a good example of this approach  a clean architectural column form, carved and polished from natural stone.

Glass approaches the same idea through light, transparency, colour, and movement. This is where hand-blown work becomes particularly fascinating. Every piece is shaped through a process that allows the maker to influence its proportions, contours, layers, and finish as it takes form. The result is a piece with its own subtle character and presence.

Eterna's Glassmith's Collection leans entirely into this. The Glassmith's Midnight Galaxy Vase is a particularly striking example: an obsidian core sits inside clear crystal, surrounded by suspended particles that scatter light differently depending on the hour and the angle you're standing at.

The rest of the Glassmith's range plays with a technique called sommerso Italian for "submerged" where the glassblower layers two or three colours of molten glass inside one another before the final shape is pulled, allowing the colour shift to happen within the glass rather than simply across its surface.

Vases occupy an especially useful middle ground in Indian gifting. A gift hamper can become part of a celebration, while a gift voucher gives the recipient the freedom to choose something for themselves. A vase becomes part of the surroundings.

They become a natural choice for housewarmings, weddings, retirements, and client relationships. They also work particularly well for corporate and client gifting because they can complement a wide range of interiors and settings.

Lalique's frosted figural work, Baccarat's cut crystal, the centuries-old furnaces of Murano, all of which transformed functional objects into recognisable expressions of craftsmanship and design. India has its own version of this story developing in real time. Houses like Good Earth have built a following around vases and decor objects that draw from craft traditions, while smaller specialist names like Elunique work specifically in gilded and gold-toned vase designs for the festive and gifting market.
